Jürgen Klopp has firmly ruled out the possibility of managing any of the Red Bull-owned football teams, despite his new role as the organization’s head of global soccer. The former Liverpool manager made a “clear commitment” during a media conference, emphasizing that he will not take on day-to-day coaching duties at clubs such as RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, or New York Red Bulls.
Klopp officially began his new position at the start of 2025, months after stepping down from his highly successful tenure at Liverpool last summer. His new responsibilities involve overseeing various aspects of the Red Bull soccer structure, including global scouting and coach development, but he has no plans to return to a coaching role.
A Clear Commitment
When asked about the possibility of stepping in as a manager for one of the Red Bull clubs, Klopp dismissed the idea unequivocally:
“I will not be the coach of a Red Bull team. That is a clear commitment. As much as you can give a guarantee, I will not be a coach at all.”
The German tactician further added:
“I am probably the only person in this room who will be asked, ‘Where are you in five years?’ I don’t have a clue. But I will not replace any of the Red Bull coaches. I hope we can create a structure where these questions will not come up at all.”
Klopp’s Legacy and New Role
Klopp, who previously managed Mainz and Borussia Dortmund before joining Liverpool in 2016, became an icon at Anfield. Over nine years, he led the club to remarkable success, including a Champions League title in 2019, a historic Premier League triumph in 2020, and victories in the Club World Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Community Shield.
Unlike his Liverpool days, Klopp’s new role focuses on providing strategic guidance rather than daily coaching. He will act as an advisor to the Red Bull-owned clubs in Germany, the United States, Brazil, Japan, and Austria while supporting their global scouting efforts and contributing to the training and development of coaches.
A New Chapter
Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for his new role and the opportunity to bring value to the organization:
“It’s pretty much what I wanted to do. I consciously stepped down from coaching seven months ago. A few months later, this opportunity arose. I don’t want to be a passenger or a token big name in the room. I really want to add value.”
He emphasized the importance of tailoring strategies to the unique needs of each club:
“There isn’t a single plan that works for all teams. We want to be the best we can be in every department and at every club.”
On Salah’s Future
During the conference, Klopp also commented on Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward whose contract expires at the end of the season:
“I hope he stays. He is the biggest striker of modern times, a fantastic player, and a fantastic human being. An outstanding athlete in all departments. I hope he stays at Liverpool.”
Moving Forward
Klopp’s transition from the dugout to a global advisory role marks a new chapter in his illustrious career. With his wealth of experience and vision, he aims to elevate Red Bull’s soccer operations worldwide while staying true to his commitment of not returning to a managerial role. It’s a bold and refreshing move, reflecting his passion for innovation and development in the sport.
